Serpentine Belt Replacement

Serpentine Belt Replacement

Step 1: Locate the belt tensioning system, which is normally a pulley with an internal spring to maintain the tension.

Step 2: Using an appropriate wrench, either a box-end or a socket wrench, loosen the tension bolt. This bolt is often located on the pulley, but can be positioned anywhere on the tension assembly. Move the tension assembly in the position to loosen the belt.

Step 3: While maintaining pressure on the tension assembly, the belt should easily slide off. Make sure you know the routing of the belt, before taking it off, this will save you a lot of time, and save you from frustration.

Step 4: Position the new belt along all of the pulleys, making sure to position it around the tension pulley last.

Step 5: Using the same tool from step 1, loosen the tension on the tension assembly, while sliding the new belt into place. Once the belt is in place, allow the tension assembly to go back into place.

Step 6: Make sure that the belt is perfectly in position with the grooves on the pulleys. If so, start the engine and make sure everything is operational and no slipping noises are present.
